RENFE upgrades its simulators, putting itself at the forefront of new technology
We would not be able to describe the progress LANDER has made without mentioning the trust that RENFE placed in our company, which, although it was well prepared, did not yet have much experience.
In 2006, RENFE embraced LANDER's innovative project to delocalise training and install simulators in ten different cities throughout Spain. This was also an unconventional simulation solution, since knowledge of the train itself was not the main objective of training with these simulators.
Such was the success of this customisation that RENFE has continued to use the same simulation system over the last 12 years and has even expanded it to new cities, committing to the same local training strategy.
In addition to the various occasional updates to continuously update software and hardware, in 2018 RENFE decided to celebrate a new milestone and undertake a project to partially update its simulation system, which was completely adapted to new technologies, while maintaining its pioneering nature. This is when RENFE once again turned to LANDER and its customised offer.
The purpose of the project can be divided into two aspects. On the hardware side, a new design for the driver's cab and instructor's position in line with the company's new image. This design not only improves aesthetics, but also ergonomics, functionality and maintainability.
In terms of software, we have updated it to reflect the current state of the fleet, signalling and train lines. We have also jointly designed a scenario that allows RENFE to train for a variety of situations that would be difficult to train for in its very large network, and we have also implemented new signalling systems such as ERTMS Level 2.
At this time, RENFE already has 25 training classrooms in different cities throughout Spain, with a total of 40 training positions. These include classrooms with one, two or three training positions, depending on the training needs in each city. The simulator design has even been adapted for those classrooms that were not large enough, so that, in spite of this handicap, they can continue training with the simulator without losing any of its functionality.
We can only be grateful for RENFE's trust during these 15 years of our journey together and we hope to continue collaborating and innovating side by side.
