The driver's loneliness
A recent newspaper article invited us to reflect on the following headline: "The bus driver's loneliness". As the headline well states, loneliness is the day to day routine of these professionals; establish the route, hands on the wheel and start driving. It is the same for the drivers of trains or other means of transport, barring some differences.
However, although they are alone while working, drivers are very aware that in reality they are not alone. That they bear a very heavy responsibility. They know that behind them, there are dozens of lives.
Due to the importance of the task they carry out, it is therefore important that they receive support at all times from the companies and organisations around them. In this respect, one of the most relevant aspects, as pointed out in the article by the drivers themselves, is still training. In jobs that involve risk, regardless of how manual or automatic the task is, the human factor is key and therefore, training becomes even more important. Training understood as technical training, awareness-raising, motivation, etc.
In this respect, the companies that try to innovate in training, that understand from the beginning people's training needs, the nature of the training and human nature itself, will surely be those that will succeed in the transport sector of the 21st century.
Providing support for these transport companies are the entities that work on a day to day basis to offer better tools for training thanks to technological advances; better training methods, thanks to knowledge on the human brain; and of course, there are also public institutions, whose support is essential so that transport companies can offer the safest and most comfortable service for citizens.
We are all committed to providing safety and confidence to those who transport millions of passengers to their destinations every day.
