Wiener Linien. Already a leader in driver training and now with e-learning tools

If we have been able to confirm one thing in recent years, it is that the professionalism and leadership of Wiener Linien in Europe in terms of driver training is indisputable.

In addition to having a very demanding and ambitious training plan, Wiener Linien depends on the use of simulators as a key tool in the training of its team. An outstanding example of this is the tram simulation system that Wiener Linien and LANDER developed a few years ago and which has been operating at full capacity since its commissioning.

But a leading company usually has another key characteristic, which is to always stay one step ahead and always try to find new and innovative ways of doing things. That’s why Wiener Linien is also a European benchmark in the use of e-learning tools. And not just for their drivers, but for their entire workforce. This includes all kinds of internal training about the company itself and even training for passenger assistance at stations, as well as many other types of training. Not surprising, then, that when we talked to our friends at Wiener Linien about a new product that LANDER was developing for rail operators, the Vienna transport operator team quickly identified potential interest in this new tool.

From that point on, two other qualities that are characteristic of a company like Wiener Linien – efficiency and decision-making capacity – came into play and enabled us to embark on this new journey together. In this new project, the two companies will work together to integrate a tool in the Wiener Linien Learn Management System that allows this operator, and more specifically all of its tram drivers, to carry out training in an easy way and from anywhere on all kinds of protocols applying to the Siemens ULF and Bombardier Flexity vehicles operating in the Austrian capital.
