Pere Calvet selected as UITP President
We’d like to offer our congratulations to Pere Calvet, General Director of Catalan Government Railways (FGC), who was selected as president of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) on May 14th following the organisation’s general assembly in Montreal.
The UITP was set up in 1885 and is a global organisation which encourages public transport. It currently represents more than 1,400 entities and brings together the main influencers in public transport. Its 18,000+ members from 96 countries include transport operators, authorities, and technical institutes and research centres from the industry and services sector.
FGC has a simulation room — designed jointly with LANDER — in its model facilities in Rubí (Barcelona), which is also the site of the new Integrated Command Centre (in Catalan, CCI). The FGC simulation room provides driver training for the UT113 series trains in operation on the Barcelona-Vallés line.
In the words of the HR Manager for FCG, the simulation room provides “a great improvement in the level of understanding of the elements and equipment of the unit, an increase in knowledge of the line prior to the ‘real’ practical driving sessions, and improves our operators’ reaction capability (veterans and novices) to traffic incidents and breakdowns on the line. All of this contributes greatly to a notable improvement in training quality.”
We hope that Pere Calvet will continue to enjoy the success that has followed him up to now, and we wish him the best of luck in his new role as president of the UITP.
