ITE is ready to train drivers at Changi Airport in Singapore
Since the beginning of November, ITE College East has had a light vehicle airport environment driving simulator for the training of its students and workers at Changi International Airport in Singapore. This tool follows the recent investments in technology that ITE is making as part of its commitment to excellence in training and its aim to bring working environments closer to their fields through technology.
The highly realistic 3D recreation of the Changi airport environment included in the simulator will now allow ITE to familiarise its students with the different accessible areas of the airport on their own campus and without the need to travel to the Changi site. This will enable them to streamline training without relying on the airport's own operations for planning.
The simulator allows students to drive automatic and manual vehicles through the airport's main accessible areas such as runways, airport ramps, and perimeter zones, among others. They can also practise driving in different weather and visibility conditions, practise manoeuvres commonly carried out with the vehicles used at the airport, and become familiar with the use of the radio and horizontal and vertical markings and signs. In addition, ITE will now be able to train its students through practice driving in poor conditions or risky situations, but doing so in safe conditions and without endangering the operations of an airport that never sleeps.
However, if there is one thing airports are unique for, it is how their traffic interacts with aircraft, which is something that must be at the heart of driver training. To ensure that drivers receive advanced training in this regard, Lander has developed a module that will allow instructors not only to modify the aforementioned environmental conditions, but also to configure the landing, take-off, and ground manoeuvres of aircraft.
For Lander, it is a pleasure to collaborate with an organisation such as ITE that is strongly committed to providing its students with the most advanced training tools that will enable them to have better prepared workers. We share their commitment to making Changi International Airport a safe environment for its users. We would like to thank them once again for placing their trust in us.
