Helsinki: city of cafés and simulators
Twelve kilos of coffee a year. Twelve! That’s the average coffee consumption of a typical person in Finland. What would Helsinki be without its cafés, its hospitality and its people. It’s never too early or too late for the next cup of khavi. Any excuse is a good one. And celebrations certainly count.
LANDER is happy to report that, after more than three exciting years, it’s time to celebrate the installation of Helsinki’s tram and metro simulators in their final location.
In early 2020, Kaupunkiliikenne Stadstrafik (formerly HKL) selected LANDER as the supplier for one of the largest tram and metro driver training centres in the Nordic countries. These past three years have not been without global upheavals and uncertainties, but times of difficulty reveal the outstanding qualities of people at all levels. Effort, ingenuity, innovation and a tireless search for solutions have been key to making the new simulation centre in Hakaniemi, Finland, a benchmark in Europe.
The project has four metro training stations and four tram training stations. Each of the metro and tram systems is controlled by an instructor station.
The installation has been arranged in such a way that the drivers are completely isolated from the trainees who follow the session from the observation stations, allowing for the simultaneous training of up to eight drivers and the same number following the session in the simulation centre.
At last, everyone in Helsinki can sit back and enjoy their coffee, knowing that the drivers who drive them to work or to university, or who take them home, are training each day on the Lander simulators, in order to ensure their safety.
Kippis!
