BTS Skytrain southern extension is now open
In December 2018 Thailand’s BTS Sukhumvit Line put a new extension in operation: the Southern Extension. The new 12.6 Km extension runs from the existing Samrong station to the new Kheha station (National Housing Authority) located in Samut Prakan province. There will be 8 new stations, namely: Pu Chao, Chang Erawan, Royal Thai Naval Academy, Pak Nam, Srinagarindra, Phraek Sa, Sai Luat and Kheha. All passengers will be able to hop on and hop off for free within the new extension for a period of 4 months, until 15 April.
This new piece of the Sukhumvit line will be implemented in the BTS Skytrain driving simulator system developed by LANDER, which is currently on the way to Bangkok and will be installed in BTSC’s facilities in February. A team of Lander specialists will be in Bangkok this month to gather information of the new track, the new stations, the signaling and the new Siemens trains that run in the line.
The use of the driving simulator system as a complement to the traditional training programs will allow BTSC to keep and improve the safety and efficiency levels of the operation.
