The Monterrey Police Academy opens a new centre with driving simulators
For years the Monterrey Police have been working to guarantee the best preparation for their officers. In addition to investing significant resources in increasingly comprehensive and advanced training, their effort also includes guaranteeing that they recruit people with a clear vocation and deep commitment to public service.
A tough selection process along with instruction where each cadet receives an initial 900 hours of training for 6 months. During this time, each pupil receives a comprehensive training experience through different departments:
Police training track, oral trials room, crime scene, tactical house, gymnasiums, IT rooms, etc.
Now, this training experience has been enriched with an investment of more than 200 million pesos in safety. The mayor of Monterrey, Mr Antonio Martínez, was tasked with inaugurating the construction and outfitting of classrooms with cutting-edge firearm training, car and motorcycle simulators.
One of the novelties included in driving simulators is the Blue light functionality: when the police officer activates his vehicle's siren, the surrounding traffic changes its behaviour according to this reality, facilitating their path in an emergency situation. Practising this situation in real life is not possible for Monterrey Police Force candidates without putting traffic vehicles and pedestrians at risk, while in a simulator it is possible to do so in a controlled, safe environment.
The materialisation of this project has been possible thanks to the close collaboration of our local partner SOS GLOBAL with the municipal government of Monterrey. We encourage other governments to take a step forward and make a commitment to the professionalisation of their security forces.
