Lander continues to consolidate its presence in the European capital

Enjoy the very best chocolate, drink excellent beers or eat mussels with chips. Such a combination is only possible in one place. Brussels, the capital of Belgium, is one of the most modern and dynamic European cities.

Considered the capital of Europe, it is home to important institutions such as the European Parliament and the European Central Bank. Moving around the city is very easy as the public transport system is extremely efficient. It is very largely managed by the company STIB (Brussels Intercommunal Transport Company) which, with more than 1,200 vehicles in the form of buses, trams and metro, serves 19 municipalities at the regional and 11 at the suburban level.

And curiously, although the metro is one of the most recent in Europe, it seems like the oldest. The first sketches for a metro in Brussels date from 1892 although the project was not implemented until 1970. The initial proposal was for a single line, but today it is an extensive infrastructure with as many as 6 lines. Two of these (lines 1 and 5) have a driving simulator developed together with Lander for the training of their drivers, so that they acquire the necessary driving skills or improve them.

According to the training department, more than 350 drivers have now received initial training, having dedicated a total of 1,400 hours to this despite capacity restrictions due to the health situation. One of the features that is particularly helpful in making best use of the training activity is the ability of the simulator to evaluate certain aspects of the driver’s performance automatically and objectively.

The Brussels Metro already has the green light for its automation in the coming years and the simulation equipment we have developed together is ready to accompany them in this important technological leap.

At Lander we are delighted to be able to consolidate our presence in the European capital through this metro simulator project, as well as through other benchmark projects in the country, such as the police driving simulators used by the Brussels Police for their training.
