LANDER joins Bangladesh Railway’s new DG on his simulator centre visit

Bangladesh Railway train driver training with simulators moves full steam ahead.

Bangladesh Railway officially inaugurated its Dhaka Training Centre a year and a half ago, a facility equipped with railway simulators developed together with Lander. Since then, the centre has welcomed many drivers who have received training through a simulator system consisting of two different engine cab replicas on 6DoF movement platforms, reproducing the actual 300 km rail network along the Dhaka-Chittagong and Dhaka-Khulna lines.

Recently, Area Managers Jorge Meré and Andoni Larrarte, together with LANDER CEO Jose Montero, had the opportunity to visit the centre along with recently-named Bangladesh Railway Director General, Engr. D N Mazumder. There, Mazumder was able to familiarise himself with the simulators, and use training managers as a resource to learn about the functionalities these simulators offer, while seeing first-hand how they have become a central component of train driver training.

In recent years, Bangladesh has been moving forward with a strategic plan for 2030, which includes supporting improvements to the quality and efficiency of its rail network service. To achieve this, Bangladesh Railway is making significant investment into new train acquisition, railway infrastructure modernisation, and organisational updates. In view of the growing demand for drivers that spurred this investment, the simulator training system is crucial to the intensive training of new drivers, as well as recycling and updating current driver knowledge, all with the ultimate goal of enhancing operational safety for Bangladesh Railway and its passengers.
