LANDER at ALAMYS 2018
This year we travelled to Quito for another Annual Congress organised by the Latin American Metro and Subway Association, ALAMYS. This year the event was hosted by Metro Quito, the latest Latin American system to join a long list of metros on the continent.
The Quito Metro will be a major social and economic benefit for the city. At an approximate cost of 2,000 million USD, the project will have 22 km of track, 15 stations and 15 trains built by CAF. The people of Quito will be able to use the metro by early 2020, thus giving their standard of living a considerable boost. The metro will connect the north of the city to the south and, among other benefits, it will now be able to cover a distance that takes over 2 hours at the present time in only 34 minutes.
The major challenge these days for Latin American mobility is to introduce multimodal transport systems that will combine buses with metros and other adjacent systems. Without this kind of combination, travel would be slower and inefficient.
At the ALAMYS Congress we were lucky enough to catch some great talks by first-rate speakers and gain an insight into the best metro railway management tools and the sector's cutting-edge technology, amid the agreeable atmosphere of the ALAMYS family.
We wish to express our thanks to the fantastic ALAMYS team for a fine Congress. Every year they surpass themselves to offer all those attending the best experiences and knowledge of metro railway technology. We also thank all the speakers for their magnificent work, and offer our congratulations to these leaders of the railway industry worldwide.
See you at the next ALAMYS Congress!
