Dubai gets ready for Expo 2020
During our colleagues' visits to the city of Dubai in recent months we have seen how the capital is preparing for Expo 2020, the site for which will be close to the Jebel Ali Free Zone and just a few kilometres from the new Al Maktoum International Airport.
The significance of this event can be felt everywhere in Dubai. Expo 2020 will the first of these events to be staged not only in the Middle East but also in Asia and Africa, so absolutely every local organisation and company has specific plans to make Expo 2020 a global success which continues to showcase Dubai as a worldwide benchmark for innovation and modernity.
And the same applies to transport: First, the rail section of the Dubai Rail and Transport Authority (RTA) already has several projects underway, and many more planned for the coming months, with the aim of upgrading and extending the existing Metro network to serve the millions of people who will visit Dubai in 2020. The overall goal is clear and ambitious: to transport approximately 46,000 persons/hour and to achieve a journey time of less than 16 minutes from Dubai Marina to the Expo site. Second, the road transport section of the RTA is planning to significantly increase the number of taxis and buses available, thus making it easier to travel around the city.
Here at LANDER we are keeping a close eye on Dubai's progress ahead of this eagerly awaited event and hope that Expo 2020 will be a resounding international success. We are sure that it will courtesy of the region's steadfast commitment to innovation and quality.
